Xerox Launches Two New Versions Of Docushare Content Management Software

UXBRIDGE -- Xerox today unveiled DocuShare® CPX and DocuShare 5.0, two new enterprise content management (ECM) software products built on a single technology platform. Businesses can use one or both applications to handle their content and document management needs, such as financial record keeping or disclosure-related government regulations. Targeted at large enterprises and public sector organisations, DocuShare CPX makes it easy for people to share content, collaborate, and automate critical work processes such as processing mortgage loan applications or routing CVs through a human resources department. In addition, DocuShare CPX supports web conferencing and social computing features such as blogs and wikis that can be easily managed and stored as legally-binding records for auditing later. "With our dual product strategy, Xerox is challenging the current ECM paradigm," said Nigel Whitmore, Xerox DocuShare UK Sales Manager. "We give customers the flexibility to mix and match both types of content management solutions on one easy-to-use platform." In addition to the core capabilities of DocuShare 5.0, DocuShare CPX features four new software components to improve productivity and streamline work processes: Content-centric Collaboration - Blogs and wikis within DocuShare CPX can be managed so approvals, permissions, and auditing are consistent with corporate content management policies. Web conferencing is also possible through a new partnership with WebEx Communications, the on-demand collaboration leader. For example, a Chief Financial Officer can bring together an organisation's finance team, even if they are geographically dispersed, by launching an online WebEx meeting within DocuShare CPX to discuss an upcoming earnings announcement and related financial documents, Content Process Automation - Managers can easily configure rules and set specific actions that will be performed on new or existing content. As a result, organisation

iGen3 customer Inc Direct becomes first company in Europe to invest in XMPie site licence

UXBRIDGE -- Since purchasing a second Xerox iGen3 at the end of last year following a period of tremendous growth, Inc Direct has further demonstrated its faith in variable one-to-one marketing by becoming the first company in Europe to invest in a site licence from XMPie, one of the leading providers of dynamic publishing software. This investment underlines the print, direct marketing and digital media company's position at the forefront of personalised direct mail in Europe. Over the past year, Inc Direct has developed its own bespoke personalisation technique using the powerful features of XMPie PersonalEffect software integrated into the Xerox FreeFlow workflow to produce personalised direct marketing collateral for companies including The Carphone Warehouse, ebookers.com, Siemens Financial Services and others. With the new XMPie licence, Inc Direct can now take advantage of the XMPie software time and time again, as well as receive regular upgrades and purchase additional add-ons. The licence offers unique features including enhanced picture personalisation, dynamic charting to create variable pie charts useful for financial and transactional applications, web-to-print opportunities for e-commerce and cross-media campaigns and access to XMPie's programme architecture, allowing companies to build their own bespoke web portals with variable data. "Our new XMPie site licence means that we now have the power and flexibility to speak to any customer and immediately deliver complex one-to-one direct marketing solutions, without using additional software," says Noel Warner, managing director at Inc Direct. "Customer demand has hit the roof since we installed our second Xerox iGen3 and we needed more firepower to respond. We view the licence as a future-proof investment to support our continuing growth and expansion into one-to-one marketing for our customers. Our commitment to Xerox and XMPie shows our confidence in their technology and support, as we

Qualitech takes the digital route with the Xerox DocuColor 5252 Colour press

UXBRIDGE -- Stockport printer Qualitech Group has bought its very first digital press, the Xerox DocuColor 5252 Digital Colour machine, to move into the smaller run printing market and the flexibility to offer its customers a little "something extra". The investment in the DC5252, worth £150,000, allows Qualitech to print at 52 pages per minute at a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, producing everything from full colour brochures, to video box covers and point of purchase signage. Steve Cleaver, managing director of Qualitech Group said: "We have a range of clients, from advertising agencies to end users and the mix of work they give us can be extraordinary. We chose the DC5252 as the overall package offered by Xerox was the most attractive, in terms of quality, customer service, back-up and support assistance. The digital press allows us to capture the smaller end of the market - those jobs that may ordinarily be too small to handle on a litho press - and also offer additional services to our existing client base especially on the variable data and personalisation side. "This is our first significant move into digital printing and after assessing a range of options we concluded that Xerox provided the best-fit technology for our needs. Not only did Xerox provide the best integrated workflow model to help us capture new business but also the market knowledge and tools to help us grow and profit from our digital print business." Qualitech was established in 1978, originally as a reprographics specialist and has prospered over the years by adapting to the pace of change in the marketplace and by investing in suitable technology. Now employing 80 staff, much of Qualitech's growth has been down to the company's focus on producing high-quality results and successfully responding to clients' requirements. The Xerox DocuColor 5252 is ideal for commercial printers, inplants and quick-print professionals and provides an economical printing solution through its sim

Image Data Group signs up for Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Presses at IPEX 06

UXBRIDGE -- Image Data Group has invested in one of the latest Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Presses at IPEX 06, with plans to purchase another four within the next 12 months and options on another six by the end of 2007, making it one of the largest digital printing operations in Europe. A long-time Xerox user, Image Data currently operates three Xerox Nuvera 120 production presses, one Xerox 6180, one Xerox 6135 and two Xerox 6060 presses. Its mono print volumes already exceed 5 million impressions a month and colour volumes are in excess of 3 million copies a month. The addition of the first of many Xerox iGen3 presses will enable Image Data to expand that capacity enormously. Greg Roach, Image Data's Group ICT director said: "Our new iGen3 machines mark the start of a major investment programme for Image Data Group as we expand into new premises and take the company into a new dimension of digital printing capability. "Our decision to invest in the Xerox iGen3 technology is based on our knowledge of Xerox's reputation for manufacturing resilient machines that can handle large workloads. Other important factors include the openness of the Xerox FreeFlow workflow system, the quality of engineering and diversity of its product range." The majority of Image Data Group's work is spread across three core markets; retail, corporate and public sector. It also produces large volumes of variable data marketing materials including ticket books and other highly personalised direct mail campaigns. Image Data Brighton, formerly XPS Ltd, is in the process of relocating to a new Automated Document Factory based in Brighton specifically designed to house five iGen3 engines, with the first of the iGen3s due to be installed at the new site in June of this year. A print logistics and distribution plant is also planned for later this year, at a new site in Howden on the M62 corridor, with extra digital capacity to act as a disaster recovery site for Image Data

Xerox and EFI extend their global support of tomorrow's digital print professionals with London College of Communication agreement

UXBRIDGE -- Maintaining its commitment to support the education of tomorrow's digital print professionals, Xerox, together with Electronics For Imaging (EFI), today announced a major initiative to supply the latest colour laser digital printing and related colour management technologies to the London College of Communication (LCC). Under the three-year agreement the LCC, formerly known as the London College of Printing, will take delivery of a Xerox DocuColor 250 complete with EFI Fiery® server, worth in excess of £85,000. The state-of-the-art colour multi-function system will enable the LCC's School of Printing and Publishing, which has 1,000 students, to develop new BA and MA degree courses and modules devoted to digital printing, document management, variable data and colour management. LCC director of enterprise within the School of Printing and Publishing, Professor Lindsay MacDonald, said the DocuColor 250, launched last June, represented a technological first for the college and would become a feature within its colour suite. "We don't have anything comparable to the Xerox machine, which perfectly complements our existing equipment. It's seen very much as the latest evolutionary step in digital colour printing. It has a high quality engine that can print onto a variety of substrates. The EFI server gives us the ability to print variable data, which makes it very interesting for those studying digital publishing and digital print document management," said MacDonald. The LCC, along with its four other sister colleges within the University of the Arts, London - Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, and the London College of Fashion - is involved in a range of programmes designed to share its knowledge with industry, as well as give its students business experience. LCC Dean of the School of Printing and Publishing, Sue Pandit, said that the DocuColor 250 would allow the college

Datagraphic improves security of documents with Xerox Nuvera MICR systems

UXBRIDGE -- Commercial security printer Datagraphic has announced a £400,000 investment in two Xerox Nuvera 144 MICR Digital Production Systems to significantly enhance the security of its printed documents. This is the first Xerox customer in the UK to use the newest MICR-equipped Xerox model after beta-testing the machine for more than a year. Designed for the printing of high security materials such as the numbers and symbols typically found at the bottom of cheques, the new MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) laser printer module on the Xerox Nuvera range uses special electromagnetic toner. When banks process cheques, the document is passed through a reader that magnetises the ink and translates the information into digital characters, ensuring that the digits (such as the sort number and account number) are verified. "We chose the Xerox Nuvera MICR model because it allows us to reach new markets and guarantee business growth in transactional print - which has increased by more than 30 per cent per year in the past three years," says Scotch Kirkpatrick, managing director at Datagraphic. "After a year of beta testing the equipment, we realised that the Nuvera could offer something unique to our customers. One of the key benefits is its ability to combine transactional documents with personalised marketing messages using techniques such as white space management combined with database mining. This solution is more cost-effective for our customers and adds significant value to the documents we produce, particularly the enhanced image quality at 4800dpi compared to the 600dpi we could previously achieve." Datagraphic is using its Xerox Nuvera 144 systems with Printsoft's PreS software, which enables personalised printing for variable data, including transactional printing of cheques and security documents such as vouchers, payroll and billing documents for major banks and financial services companies. The "near litho" print quality enables us t

Xerox brightens up colour printing with new paper range

UXBRIDGE -- Xerox Document Supplies Europe today announced the launch of its whitest range of paper specifically produced for the digital colour printing market. The new range of Colotech+ paper has been developed in response to the ever-increasing industry demand for professional quality colour printing. The whiteness of the paper enhances the impact of colour in documents by creating a sharper, brighter image. Xerox Document Supplies Europe, the division of Xerox dedicated to the development, procurement and distribution of paper and office supplies, worked for three months on shade trials for the new range, which was then extensively tested at Xerox's R&D facilities in Hemel Hempstead, UK, and in the US. The new paper has a CIE Whiteness of 170, in comparison to the previous range of Colotech+ paper, which had a CIE Whiteness of 164. At 350gsm the new Colotech+ range is also the heaviest paper Xerox has developed to date. The 350gsm weight has been introduced in response to requests from Xerox's graphic arts and production customers. "Xerox's media expertise and R&D facilities are unique in the marketplace, enabling us to meet our customers' needs," said Alan Sewell, general manager, Xerox Document Supplies Europe. "We recognise that the quality of the paper is as important as the quality of the printer when it comes to producing professional colour print. We have been listening to our customers and have developed this new brighter, heavier range of paper in response to their needs. We feel confident that Xerox now provides a range of paper that meets the requirements of all sections of the market." Xerox's Colotech+ paper is optimised to enhance productivity and performance in Xerox printers, copiers and multifunctional devices. As Xerox develops both the equipment and the media, the paper is extensively tried and tested in order to ensure that the print job runs smoothly with premium quality. Stockle colour chooses Xerox in first move into digital

UXBRIDGE -- Stockle Colour Printers has chosen Xerox to support its move into digital, investing £190,000 in a Xerox DocuColor 6060 Digital Production Press with Creo RIP front end and Darwin variable data software. The press is designed to meet a growing demand for complex print jobs, and is engineered to help Stockle boost its print revenue by producing high quality customised brochures, one to one documents and other print jobs on a wide variety of paper stocks. The commercial printer, based in Bradford, Yorkshire, made the transition to digital in order to diversify its business and enter the colour print-on-demand market, essentially becoming a one-stop shop for all customers' printing requirements. "We thought we'd feel nervous making such an investment in digital, however we have found it instantly valuable and easy to use," says Ian Bryan, managing director at Stockle Colour. "With our Xerox 6060 we are now able to cover all bases in what is a fiercely competitive environment, up to B1 work, proofing for large runs and dealing with B2B business for shorter-run brochure work. We chose Xerox because of its high quality of service and support, which will prove invaluable in helping us develop and grow the digital side of our business." Stockle Colour is using its Xerox DocuColor 6060 to consolidate its existing customer base and expand into new markets, with work which previously was all printed on two Heidelberg B1 litho presses. The company is now generating digital short and personalised variable data work - jobs that were previously outsourced. It produces a range of materials including direct mail, brochures, flyers, calendars and mail order print for businesses such as local councils, universities, design agencies and direct mail houses. "We realised the potential that going digital could have on Stockle's business, because it allows it to bring more work in-house and compete on price for short-run digital jobs," says Greg Turnbull, acc
