UXBRIDGE, U.K., March 9, 2016 – Land Registry will work with Xerox to continue to digitise and streamline processes, ensuring its response to customer needs is flexible and cost efficient. Land Registry, responsible for documenting the ownership of land and property in England and Wales, expects the five-year agreement with Xerox to produce £500K in savings during the first year alone.

“We guarantee and protect property rights, with the Land Register underpinning property ownership worth over £4 trillion across England and Wales, including over £1 trillion of mortgages. Continuing to minimise manual paper processes ensures our people can spend less time on clerical activities and focus on applying their expert knowledge and judgement to process complex registrations.” said Kirsty Eales, Head of Central Operations at Land Registry. “Xerox can support our data processing needs and assist us as our organisation evolves.”

Xerox will provide a number of services including:

  • Scanning around 6000 inbound postal items each day
  • Interfacing with back end systems to provide validations and uploading of files to digital workflows
  • Managing inbound postal communications and some outbound communications
  • Same-day processing of the £100k received in payments by cheque daily.

Further into the project, Xerox will use machine-learning technologies to automate processes such as scanning and categorising new or amended land records.

“Automating activities such as these will further improve the accuracy and speed of processing inbound correspondence and enable Land Registry to more closely manage its collective records,” said Jo Van Onsem, Group President, International Public Sector, Xerox. “By continuing with and enhancing its digitised workflows, Land Registry is well placed to drive efficiencies across the board, to the benefit of its customers.”
