UXBRIDGE – Tesco, the world’s third largest retailer, has announced that as part of its continued commitment to be an environmentally-responsible business, it has invested in the world’s first high-speed solid ink office multifunction printer.

The installation of six Xerox ColorQube 9200 multifunction systems at Tesco’s Personal Finance supermarket banking division’s new headquarters in Scotland is Europe’s first customer installation of this breakthrough new device. The Xerox ColorQube’s cartridge-free design and new print head technology means that it cuts greenhouse emissions significantly and can reduce lifecycle energy consumption by nine percent. As a result, the Xerox ColorQube system provides real environmental benefits to Tesco Personal Finance’s new offices and will help set the benchmark for new Tesco offices in the future.

Nick Folkes, IT Director, Infrastructure and Operations, Tesco Stores Limited said, “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us today and, at Tesco, we have a responsibility to provide leadership. Our move to new headquarters in Edinburgh gave us the opportunity to have the most eco friendly office possible and therefore required office devices that reduced our carbon footprint. The Xerox ColorQube’s environmental credentials made it extremely attractive to use as it fitted firmly with Tesco’s Community Plan - our programme to put social and environmental issues at the heart of our business.

”Now that the Xerox devices are in place, we are closely monitoring the success of the machines both from a Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) and cost perspective. We hope that the rollout undertaken by Tesco Personal Finance will act as a blueprint for Tesco corporate offices in the future,” Nick Folkes added.

Tesco’s office move saw the supermarket bank consolidate its office equipment and reduce its total cost of ownership. This was achieved by moving away from stand-alone printers, faxes and scanners and instead choosing multifunctional devices, such as the Xerox ColorQube 9200 for the office floor. In order to protect sensitive financial information from being accessed by different departments on the shared devices, the Xerox ColorQube 9200 is equipped with Secure Access and Equitrac Follow Me.

The contract also saw 14 Xerox Phaser 8560 colour solid ink printers installed for sole use by Directors and their assistants

Mark Duffelen, director and general manager, Office Group, Xerox UK commented, “The environmental impact of businesses remains top of the board agenda in some of the country’s largest organisations, like Tesco. Xerox’s work with Tesco Personal Finance is a best practice example of how making simple adjustments to office equipment can help businesses become greener and more-environmentally friendly. We believe it is crucial to offer our customers simple solutions that reduce greenhouse gases and waste whilst also improving productivity and efficiency. The Xerox ColorQube system sits perfectly in this space.”

Since its launch the ColorQube has been honoured with three major awards.
  • In May 2009 the ColorQube was honoured with a Technological Innovation Award from Industry Analysts, Inc., in recognition of the breakthrough technology behind the world's first high-speed solid ink multifunction printer.
  • In June 2009 the new Hybrid Colour pricing plans, offered with the ColorQube, were awarded “Most Innovative Colour Printer Pricing” as part the 2009 BERTL’s Best Awards.
  • In July 2009 Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) awarded the ColorQube an Outstanding Achievement Award for its innovative pricing structure, ease of use and environmental benefits.
