UXBRIDGE – In a multi-million pound contract, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed its choice of iON, a group led by Xerox, as its prime supplier of print and related services throughout the UK.

As part of the contract going live this week, iON will provide DWP with business print and some marketing and publicity products, as well as, in the longer term, secure print services, stationery, direct mail, stationery ordering and reprographics. For the first time, all these services will be available to DWP staff through a single point of contact and via the Government e-procurement exchange.

David Smith, commercial director, Department for Work and Pensions, said: "The iON group is a collection of leaders in their fields, with the capabilities to deliver improved efficiency throughout the document supply chain – from the moment materials are ordered, through procurement and production, all the way to their final delivery. The approach iON has developed for DWP will ensure that all our needs for print and associated services will be met as and when we need them."

The contract, signed for seven years with an option to extend for a further three, covers over two thousand offices in the UK, across all of its core businesses: Jobcentre Plus, Pension Service, Child Support Agency and the Disability and Carers Service, as well as DWP Corporate Services.

"The signing of this landmark deal brings a vast array of document-intensive activities into a single integrated model, with all the increased efficiency, reliability and value this will provide," said Armando Zagalo de Lima, president, Xerox Europe. "This outcome is the result of excellent co-operation between the Xerox-led iON partners, each of them bringing their own established experience and expertise to provide significant, tangible benefits to DWP as part of its own commitment to optimise its service to millions of UK citizens."

In addition to Xerox, the prime contractor, iON will include:
  • EDS who already have a significant presence in the Department and with whom Xerox has had a long, collaborative relationship
  • CEVA Logistics (formerly TNT Logistics)
  • Accenture, the management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company
  • TSO (The Stationery Office), specialists in providing document and publishing services to the UK public sector, and
  • Remploy, the leading provider of employment services for disabled people.
Each of the partners is responsible for a separate area of service, united under iON to deliver a unique combination of skills and expertise.
