MetroMail underwent a competitive tender process that looked for a solution that could increase the organisation’s productivity, capacity, flexibility and efficiency. Based on several vendor recommendations, MetroMail chose to install a variety of Xerox colour and monochrome digital production machines, including seven Xerox Nuvera 288 cut sheet printers (the biggest Nuvera installation in the UK and one of the biggest in the World), a Xerox 650 monochrome continuous feed printer, a Xerox 495 duplex monochrome continuous feed machine, a Xerox 700 digital colour press and DocuShare software. MetroMail has also invested in feeding and finishing equipment and GMC composition software, workflow software and Cygnus mail sort software.
This print technology refresh is supported by an investment plan that has already seen MetroMail spend more than 3.5 million in the last 18 months on new enclosing and wrapping equipment. All equipment is housed in the company’s Peterlee, County Durham factory. As a result of this investment, MetroMail can now produce over three million A4 images a day, including direct mail inserts, envelopes and polythene wraps.
“Investing in new print equipment is at the heart of MetroMail’s long-term investment plan to become a more efficient organisation, whereby we will be better placed to increase customer satisfaction and capture additional volume. Since the Xerox printers were installed at the beginning of January, we are already reaping the benefits. Our team’s business efficiency has improved by almost 60% – taking us from three shifts a day to just two shifts. This means we can handle print jobs much more quickly and there is no longer a need for MetroMail staff to work through the night. Our investment demonstrates that we are a strong and progressive business that is committed to its staff, customers and partners,” said Alan Purvis, managing director, MetroMail.
Commenting on the deal, Peter Taylor, director, Production and Graphic Communications, Xerox UK said, “It’s exciting to see print organisations, like MetroMail, being bullish and making the strategic decision to invest in new equipment in order to help them grow during tough economic conditions. With Xerox acting as a partner, and not just a vendor, we have been able to deliver the best value solution to meet MetroMail’s business requirements.”
“When evaluating the responses to the tender process, we were highly impressed with Xerox. Not only did Xerox address our original needs, but the account managers delivered over and above what the tender requested and provided extremely valuable suggestions for improvement that we at MetroMail had not even thought of! This added value was instrumental in making our choice. By partnering with strong organisations, such as Xerox, we are able to tap into their knowledge capital in order to further enhance our business and ultimately our offering to our clients,” added Alan.
