UXBRIDGE – Xerox will manage global print operations at Ingersoll Rand, saving the global manufacturing firm millions by better managing company-wide print spend.

The nine-year Enterprise Print Services (EPS) contract brings multiple output devices, print budgets and vendor support systems under Xerox management. As a result, Ingersoll Rand expects to reduce operational costs by up to 30 percent and improve productivity with faster, easier ways to manage the volume of documents – invoices, service agreements, product manuals and marketing materials – for its diverse base of commercial and industrial customers.

In working with Xerox, Ingersoll Rand will design a document strategy that supports two corporate initiatives – fully integrate the businesses acquired from Trane in June 2008; and centralise and standardise its entire technology infrastructure, making work processes more consistent and efficient for employees.

In Europe, Xerox will manage print services across Ingersoll Rand sites in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK.

“Xerox shares our long-term vision for well managed print across our entire company,” said William B. Gauld, senior vice president, Ingersoll Rand. “While they optimise our print environment to meet our cost savings, environmental sustainability and customer service goals, we can stay focused on our primary vision of inspiring progress for our customers.”

Using a Lean Six Sigma-based approach, Xerox will design a print environment with the appropriate number of output devices, like printers, fax machines, copiers and scanners, to help employees work more efficiently. Ingersoll Rand employees will have help adapting to more efficient technology and work processes through Xerox’s change management training and support programs.

“This is not a typical client-supplier contract, it’s a partnership that combines strengths from both companies to enhance employee productivity and to communicate more effectively with our broad base of customers,” said Diane Richter, global supplier manager, Ingersoll Rand. “Collaborating with Xerox has been easy – and it produced a business model that will keep us competitive, reliable and progressive throughout our relationship.”

Xerox will also support Ingersoll Rand’s environmental sustainability goals of reducing energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and non-hazardous waste generation by 15 percent each. Using tools such as Xerox’s Sustainability Calculator on a monthly basis, the two companies will measure progress and pinpoint new opportunities to reduce paper use and power consumption and minimise landfill waste.

“The economic climate is driving businesses of all sizes to seize the cost-saving opportunity that EPS provides,” said Stephen Cronin, president, Xerox Global Services. “Clients like Ingersoll Rand are increasingly looking to Xerox as a strategic partner to innovate the way they do business and drive long-term growth.”

Xerox was positioned by Gartner, Inc., in the Leaders Quadrant in the “Magic Quadrant for Managed Print Services Worldwide” for 2008 and 2009 and “Magic Quadrant for MFPs and Printers” for 2008 reports. The Magic Quadrants offer visual snapshots of a market's direction, maturity and participants, in which Gartner evaluates vendors on the basis of completeness of vision and ability to execute.
