Xerox "widens" line of technical printers; new compact wide format system is big on features

UXBRIDGE – Architectural, engineering and construction companies, manufacturing firms and commercial print shops have an affordable new option for their black-and-white technical documents. Xerox’s Wide Format 6605 solution marks the eleventh wide format product the company has unveiled in the last two years. The compact new Xerox 6605 integrates copying, scanning and printing with sharp image quality, colour scanning and an easy-to-use interface. The system employs 600 x 600 dpi copying, scanning and printing technology to ensure crisp accurate image quality on jobs such as construction plans, electrical wiring diagrams or mapping. The on-board colour scanner allows for hard copy documents to be scanned to electronic files or can copy existing prints of all standard sizes and up to 15metres in length. The printer can produce up to five A1 size images per minute and a two-roll paper option offers greater printing capacity. The 15-inch (381 mm) colour touch screen and intuitive user interface make it easy to operate, even for users that don’t have familiarity with production printers. “The new Xerox Wide Format 6605 solution is an extremely easy to use device that offers great image quality, proven reliability and impressive productivity.” said Howard Witt, Wide Format Manager, Xerox Europe. “This exciting new printer joins an extensive range of Xerox wide format devices that are available from an increasing number of resellers as Xerox expands its distribution channels right across Europe. Xerox continues to invest in the development and expansion of its wide format business.” New features on the 6605 include: Scan Preview - real time preview of the document as it is scanned, giving the user confidence of the image quality. Queue Management – jobs are shown as thumbnails on the user interface, pending jobs can be re-prioritised and completed jobs can be reprinted. Xerox Launches Enterprise Print Services; First To Meet Printing Needs From the Desktop to the Print Centre

UXBRIDGE – Solidifying its lead in managed print services (MPS), Xerox today announced Enterprise Print Services (EPS), the first offering to help companies better manage documents across their global print infrastructure – from the office to the print centre to the virtual workplace. Xerox EPS reduces the cost of printing, sharing and updating everything from a home-based worker’s 50-page proposal, to large-quantity, full colour brochures in a marketing department. Extending Xerox’s MPS offering to give companies a complete view of worldwide print operations, EPS helps all document output meet budget targets, security policies, and environmental sustainability objectives. “By expanding MPS beyond the office walls, organisations have total control over company-wide print spend,” said Ken Weilerstein, vice president, research at Gartner, Inc. “This is significant because internal and external print shop costs can often exceed office printing spend, so optimising across all print environments will uncover even more sources of cost savings.” Xerox makes it easy for companies to identify new opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiency across the entire print network by adding the following capabilities to its MPS portfolio: Support for home and virtual printing: Employees working from home or remote locations benefit from the same support system offered in the office. Xerox monitors off-site devices and reaches out via phone, e-mail or Web-based support sessions to provide technical assistance. Universal print drivers give mobile workers easy access to printers when working in corporate offices. Print routing to save money, paper and time: Based on an analysis of employee work habits, Xerox helps companies set up guidelines that direct documents to the most appropriate device, based on specific requirements such as cost, turnaround time and location. For example, when employees go to print, they receive a message such as: “Print to a dif

Xerox solid ink technology helps Marks & Spencer with Plan A commitments

UXBRIDGE – UK retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) has selected Xerox technology as part of its drive to combat the effects of climate change and reduce waste through its five year ‘eco-plan’ Plan A. Xerox’s environmentally friendly solid ink printers are helping to support M&S’ Plan A commitments. M&S has installed 1,050 Xerox Phaser® 8560 colour printers using Xerox’s patented solid ink technology across all 602 M&S stores nationwide. The devices are used primarily for printing high quality coloured shelf edge labels. Crucially for M&S, the solid ink sticks used in the printers help to reduce waste output significantly. Cartridge-free, with minimal packaging, solid ink sticks equate to a 90 per cent reduction in landfill per device. In addition, a study1 estimates that solid ink printing uses nine percent less lifecycle energy and produces 10 percent fewer greenhouse gases than a comparable laser device. Xerox’s solid ink technology also makes colour printing for M&S a lower cost solution than competing laser technology. The solid ink imaging process is also highly efficient, producing nearly 100 per cent ink-to-page transfer which results in superior quality printing, a fundamental requirement for M&S. Xerox has also installed its award winning device management software CentreWare Web to help M&S monitor and measure print activity and provide pro-active fleet monitoring and reporting. As a result of M&S’s Plan A, and Xerox’s own environmental commitments, both companies have been listed highly in the latest ethical rankings from Geneva-based Covalence, taking 4th and 5th places respectively. Carmel McQuaid, M&S Sustainable Development Manager, said, “We’re very pleased with the new Xerox printers installed across the network of UK stores. Not only are the devices providing us with significant cost savings, vital at this time of economic instability, but they are helping us with the successful execution of Plan A.” Mark Duffelen, director and

The deal, won by Xerox partner Bytes Technology Group, will enable LEFA Print to deliver digital output with the very latest production device in the Xerox DocuColor range. The new Xerox DocuColor 7002 Digital Press will play a central role in LEFA Print’s digital print growth strategy, which will see the firm targeting new external work, increasing its print management services and working closely with customer to gauge whether jobs can be handled more effectively on the new digital machine. LEFA is also looking to expand its online business-to-consumer applications. Documents to be produced on the new Xerox DocuColor 7002 device includes promotional and marketing materials, calendars, business cards and flyers. Together these features will increase LEFA’s productivity by improving print job turnaround. In addition, the Xerox DocuColor 7002 new formulation toner produces a visually flatter image whilst retaining the vibrancy of colour and was key a factor in LEFA Print’s decision to invest in this technology. Ed Arthur, managing director at LEFA Print, said, “We are seeing a continued growth in the digital arm of LEFA Print. As we look to drive new revenues through the business, we recognised that it was imperative that we had access to the right technology. Xerox continuous feed system combines power of colour with economics of black-and-white - at the same time on the same paper

UXBRIDGE – Xerox’s new Continuous Feed 4-over-1 Solution maintains the impact of full colour with the economics of black-and-white in a high-speed system built for production print jobs. Combining the power of the Xerox 490™ Colour Continuous Feed Printer with the monochrome Xerox 650™ Continuous Feed Printer, this solution is designed for transpromotional applications – documents that provide transactional and promotional information based on the recipients’ previous purchase habits. The solution provides another innovative way to transition into colour for traditional black-and-white bills and statements. Users benefit from adding full-colour marketing messages on one side and from the lower cost of printing content – like terms and conditions and activity details – in black-and-white. Based on InfoTrends research, 95 percent of consumers open and read the bills and statements they receive in the mail. These same consumers spend an average of two to three minutes reviewing each statement, and 20 percent of them spend five minutes or more. With this level of attention, transaction documents represent a valuable customer touch point.1 A leading financial services company will install and test the Xerox Continuous Feed 4-over-1 Solution later this year. A limited global product launch is planned for early 2010. “This latest breakthrough provides the right blend of colour, speed and image quality to help transform costly, routine communications into high-impact promotional documents,” said Eric Armour, president, Global Business Group, Xerox Corporation. “It reinforces Xerox’s commitment to invest in and deliver continuous feed innovations to the marketplace.” Taking advantage of Xerox’s innovative and proprietary flash fusing technology, the solution uses a micro-burst of light to heat only the toner and not the paper, resulting in better print image quality and greater substrate flexibility. Flash fusing also eliminates the need for fuser oi

Xerox brings even more colour power to the office with the Phaser 7500 and Phaser 6121MFP

UXBRIDGE – Xerox today announced two powerful new colour products for the office environment: the Xerox Phaser 7500 A3 colour laser printer and the Xerox Phaser 6121MFP, A4 colour multifunction printer. The Xerox Phaser® 7500 A3 colour printer is designed for the office environment where on-demand, high-volume colour printing is a must. Printing at up to 35 pages per minute, the Phaser 7500 allows companies to do in-house printing of documents that require high quality and fast turnaround – thus cutting costs on print jobs that might previously have been outsourced. With features such as automatic two-sided printing, booklet printing and collation, the device produces professional-looking manuals, newsletters, and reports. The Phaser 7500 also has support for up to SRA3 paper and heavy media for full-bleed prints, making it ideal for posters, brochures and business cards. “Xerox continues to bring the power of colour to more and more offices around the world,” said Malcolm Glynn, Office Marketing Manager, Xerox UK. “The Phaser 7500 is robust enough to handle short-run, professional-quality colour print jobs, and compact enough to fit into a busy office.” The printer features a unique, colour-matching technology called Colour by Words that uses words to define colour. The patented Colour by Words technology makes it easy to specify and change colours on printed documents. For example, users simply select the desired colour modifications from a drop-down list – such as “pale green colours a lot more green” or “red colours a lot more saturated” – and the image is automatically adjusted. With Colour by Words, everyone from a graphic designer to the part-time PowerPoint user can get the right colour and vibrant prints the first time. Prices for the Phaser 7500 colour printer start from £2,699. It uses EA-HG toner and incorporates enhanced HiQ LED technology, which delivers 1200x1200dpi image quality, better registration and smoother lines on images and
